Avery is a St. Louis–based lighting designer and assistant whose work is driven by a deep commitment to activism in theater. A graduate of Webster University’s Sargent Conservatory of Theatre Arts, Avery holds a BFA in Lighting Design.
Professional credits include Girlfriend Medicine, to inspire, and help change the narrative around women’s health. An original work created to uplift powerful voices—especially in spaces that celebrate strength, resilience, and community. Stagedoor Manor productions of Into the Woods, Tuck Everlasting, SIX: Teen Edition, and MTI pilot productions of Come From Away, Suffs, and Dear Evan Hansen. Avery has also assisted on Disney Frozen The Musical at Olney Theatre Center and worked with the Repertory Theatre of St. Louis on It’s a Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play.
At Webster University, Avery’s design credits include Our Town, along with assisting roles on Our Dear Dead Drug Lord, Silence, The Last Days of Judas Iscariot, and Blood at the Root. Their work extends into dance, designing for Webster University Dance Ensemble and BFA: Echoing Forward, and assisting New Works, a BFA student choreographic concert.
Outside of the theater, Avery works as a 911 dispatcher—where staying calm in chaos, multitasking at lightning speed, and solving problems in real time are all part of the job. Turns out, that skill set translates surprisingly well to tech week.
